ADD Architecture Studio won the prestigious 2018-2019 GOLD A’ Design Award in the Lighting Products and Projects Design Category from the International Design Academy. This global competition, held annually in Italy, recognizes the best in design, and ADD’s innovative creation, the “Reverse Sunclock Multifunctional Wall Lamp,” stood out for its originality.

The lamp was inspired by the concept of merging time and light. This idea led to a unique design that combines the aesthetics of a sun clock with a wall lamp.

The lamp features a rotating discus, half made of translucent fiberglass and half of brass, symbolizing the yin-yang relationship between light and time. As the day progresses, six segments of the discus gradually light off, mirroring the segmentation of a clock. The discus rotates every six hours, providing both direct and indirect lighting that adapts to the time of day.

The lamp’s construction is equally impressive, with a brass wreath holding the fiberglass and brass brise soleil semicircles. LED strips placed between the materials create a dynamic play of light and shadow. Hidden timers and power adapters control the rotation and lighting of the discus, turning the lamp into both a functional timepiece and a striking design statement.
