Located in the serene neighborhood of Agia Paraskevi, the renovation of this modernist single house encapsulates a harmonious blend of contemporary minimalism and redefined modernity. The project pays homage to the original architecture while at the same time utilizing a dicitionary which adresses synchronous design trends, thus creating a timeless space where modernism meets today’s aesthetic ideals.
Wood plays a central role in this renovation. Our design is infused with warmth and tranquility. Spanning from the elegant wooden floors that run throughout the house to the intricately crafted wooden windows that frame the outdoor scenery, the materiality of wood breathes life into every corner of the residence. Adding to the above elements, ADD thoughtfully selected wooden furniture pieces that enhance the sense of calm and sophistication, ensuring that the natural textures create an inviting atmosphere.
The surgical use of light fixtures further elevates the aura of each space. Lighting design has been meticulously curated, offering both functionality and ambiance. The original positioning of spot-lights on the exposed concrete roof was preserved , paying homage to the house’s modernist roots while accentuating its architectural character. A new hovering line of track spots was introduced in the kitchen, in order to meet contemporary needs, offering focused illumination that complements the room’s strong design attributes. Indirect linear LED lighting is thoughtfully integrated both along the backsplash and the sunken ceiling section of the kitchen. These linear lights cast a soft, diffused glow, creating an elegant interplay with the more direct track lighting. The relationship between these two lighting systems highlights the contrast between precision and atmosphere, blending functional brightness with an inviting warmth that enhances the textures of the travertine marble backsplash, the roof’s exposed concrete and the refined countertop surfaces.
The renovation not only respects the roots of modernist architecture but reinterprets them with a contemporary lens, offering a space that is as functional as it is aesthetically profound. ADD Architecture Studio has transformed this home into a sanctuary where every design decision echoes a strong sense of purpose, elegance, and a connection to the surrounding nature.
